Good news for ‘The Uncanny Counter’ fans!!
Following the massive success of the first season on Sunday, OCN has been confirmed the series will return for a second season.
According to Nielsen Korea, the final episode scored an average nationwide rating of 11%, making it the South Korean network’s highest viewership rating of all time. It surpassed its previous record set by its January 10 episode at 10.6%.
“We have decided to produce ‘The Uncanny Counter’ season two,” OCN told local media outlets on Monday, as reported by The Korea Times. “We are still working out the details, including the timeline of the filming and broadcasting schedule.”
The network added that it is “in talks” with the original cast that includes Jo Byung-gyu, Yoo Jun-sang, Kim Se-jeong and Yeom Hye-ran.
Based on a popular webtoon—portmanteau of ‘web’ and ‘cartoon’—of the same title, ‘The Uncanny Counter’ tells the story of struggle between the evil spirits and the Counters who chase them down with special abilities.
K-dramas based on popular webtoons such as ‘True Beauty’, ‘Itaweon Class’ and ‘Sweet Home’ have been gaining traction and viewership.
The value of the South Korean webtoon market increased from AED 177 million in 2010 to over AED 2.8 billion last year, as per data from the Korea Creative Content Agency (KOCCA).
In addition to ‘The Uncanny Counter’, horror series ‘Sweet Home’ was also a popular choice among Netflix subscribers in the UAE.
