Surprise suprise! On the occasion of Valentine’s Day, Netflix Korea has gifted fans with a sweet gift, announcing that the second season of ‘Love Alarm’ will be out on March 12.
The Korean-based social media platform shared on its social media channels two image stills of the K-drama with the launch date.
‘Love Alarm’ is centred in an alternate reality where an application by an unknown developer alerts people if someone within a 10-meter radius has romantic feelings for them.
Based on a popular webtoon of the same name by South Korea’s renowned graphic novelist Kye Young-chon, the 12-episode series stars famed Korean actress Kim So-hyun, who plays a young and hardworking student caught up in a love triangle while dealing with her own personal adversities. In addition to young love, it covers other themes such data protection and privacy in a social media-driven society.
Due to the drama’s popularity in 2019, Netflix’s first original Korean-language drama series has been picked up for another season. In February 2020, photos from the script reading session were released ahead of filming for the second season.
Webtoon-based Korean TV shows are becoming increasingly popular among viewers in Korea and globally, with the US streaming giant further accelerating the trend by dropping more adaptations of online comics such as ‘The Uncanny Counter’ and ‘Itaewon Class’.
Recently, the apocalyptic horror series ‘Sweet Home’, which stars ‘Love Alarm”s Song Kang, has been named one of the most successful Netflix originals created in South Korea. It was among TV series trending in the UAE on the streaming giant.
