No this is not a rumour! Kim Ji-won, better known by his stage name Bobby, is expecting a baby in September and announced his intentions to marry.
The iKON member broke the shocking news through a handwritten letter to fans today. The 25-year-old didn’t disclose when or to whom he’ll be getting married to.
“Although I’m happy to be starting a new family, I feel more sorry to all the fans who will be shocked by this news,” the K-Pop star wrote in his letter. “I promise to become a proud person to iKON members, fans and my parents who have helped me hold value in this world.”
His public announcement comes as a shock to his fans, evidently seen as #Bobby was second top trending hashtag locally. iKONICS took over Twitter to support and congratulate the pair.
While YG Entertainment’s boy group is preparing to release an album after starring in Mnet’s “Kingdom: Legendary War,” it’s unclear whether Bobby will take part.
Bobby is the not the only artist from a popular boy group to announce similar news. Earlier last year, EXO’s member Chen, whose real name is Kim Jong-dae, surprisingly announced his engagement to his non-celebrity girlfriend, hinting his soon-to-be wife’s pregnancy.
The South Korean rapper and singer-songwriter became known to the public in 2013 via Mnet’s audition show “WIN: WHO IS NEXT,” which starred YG’s trainees, and shot to stardom before his debut in iKON by winning hip-hop survival show “Show Me the Money 3” in 2014.
Bobby debuted as a member of the seven-piece boy group a year later, releasing hits like “My Type” and “LOVE SCENARIO.”
The K-Pop artist made his solo debut with the album “LOVE AND FALL” in September 2017. In January, he released his second studio album “Lucky Man” on January.
