Sibling duo AKMU have renewed their contract with YG Entertainment for another five years, the agency said on Tuesday.
Lee Chan-hyuk said YG has reliably supported them for seven years “without any small conflict or clash in opinion,” while his younger sister Lee Su-hyun added that she never considered leaving the South Korean giant.
AKMU rose to popularity after winning first place on SBS audition program ‘K-Pop Star Season 2’ back in 2012. After signing with YG Entertainment, the singer-songwriting duo released popular songs including ‘200%’, ‘Give Love’, ‘Last Goodbye’, and ‘Dinosaur’.
Their song ‘How Can I Love the Heartbreak, You’re the One I Love’ was ranked eight on the overall Gaon digital chart in 2020.
Both in their early 20s, the siblings are known for their unique, quirky musical styling, pure lyrics and catchy melodies and compose and produce majority of their songs.
The pair released single ‘Happening’ on November 16. A month earlier, Su-hyun, who is one of the South Korea’s most popular young female singers, released her first solo song, ‘Alien’.
Most of the country’s entertainment contracts are legally required to last around seven years, with the possibility for renewal upon its expiration.
