BTS’ pastel-coloured ensemble outfits in the music video of the mega-hit song ‘Dynamite’ sold for a total of $162,500, eight times its estimate price.
It was forecasted to auction off between $20,000 – $40,000.
The MusiCares Charity Relief Auction was hosted by Julien’s Auctions on Sunday, with all proceeds to benefit MusiCares, the the philanthropic arm of the Recording Academy.
The BTS collection of outfits worn by RM, Jin, Suga, J-hope, Jimin, V and Jungkook went to a Japanese art collector, Yusaku Maezawa, and top Japanese YouTuber HIKAKIN.
This isn’t the first time the Grammy-nominated septet have auctioned off their belongings. They previously donated a set of custom-made microphones used and signed by the members to the Grammy Week 2020 charity auction, where it fetched for $83,200.
‘Dynamite’ is BTS’s first number-one single in the United States and debuted No. 1 on Billboard Hot 100, making BTS the first all-South Korean act to top the chart and their first song to do so.
The English-language song is also in the running for a Grammy award in the Best Pop Duo/Group Performance category.
The music video set new records on YouTube for the most views for a music video in 24 hours and the biggest music video premiere with over 3 million peak concurrent viewers.
The K-Pop band is set to release their ‘BE (Essential Edition)’, which contains the deepest appreciation for their fans, on February 19.
