Dior has signed BTS member Jimin as a global ambassador.
Newest ambassador
The French fashion house dropped images of Jimin modeling a sportswear-inspired look by Dior’s newest creation from the Summer 23 collection.
“In his role as new global ambassador, Jimin exemplifies the timeless spirit and singularity of Dior as he continues a bond created in 2019 with Kim Jones, who designed BTS’ stage looks, and solidifies his friendship with the House,” Dior tweeted.
The LVMH-owned label’s relationship with BTS dates back to when menswear designer Kim Jones made custom-made designs — inspired by the utilitarian sportswear aesthetic of his Pre-Fall 2019 collection — for the septet’s ‘Love Yourself: Speak Yourself’ global tour four years ago.
Jimin is the latest K-pop star to land ambassadorship with Dior for the menswear section, joining EXO’s Sehun and ASTRO’s Cha Eun-woo who both attended the luxury brand’s Men Fall 2023 show in Egypt last December. On the women’s side, Jisoo, a member of BLACKPINK, signed on with Dior as a global ambassador for fashion and beauty in March 2021.
The move comes as high-end fashion houses continue to tap into the global stardom of Korean stars to be the face of their brand to further catalyze demand.
BTS was named global brand ambassador of Louis Vuitton in April 2021, marking the K-pop group’s first luxury fashion partnership.
Solo debut?
The multifaceted artist was recently featured in BIGBANG member Taeyang’s new single ‘VIBE,’ which landed atop global music charts, including iTunes in the Middle East. Jimin was credited as a co-composer of the collaborative single.
He is reportedly planning to release a solo album next month. His agency BIGHIT MUSIC responded to a media report, saying it would announce the specific date as soon as it is confirmed.
Jimin will therefore become the fourth BTS member to release solo work, following J-Hope, Jin, and RM.
