BTS’ Jung Kook landed on the region’s first music streaming chart titled, Official MENA Chart, with ‘Dreamers,’ announced International Federation of the Phonographic Industry (IFPI).
The global recording industry trade didn’t disclose any further details on listenership numbers, but revealed that ‘Calm Down’ by Nigerian artist Rema was the top pick for the week of November 18 – 24. The remixed version, featuring Selena Gomez, further boosted the song’s popularity, it added.
Egyptian artists Farid, Ahmed Saad and Wegz and Saudi artist Ayed also made appearances in the top 10.
Other FIFA World Cup’s tournament soundtracks ‘Arhbo’ by Ozuna, GIMS and RedOne’s and Waka Waka (This Time For Africa) by Shakira were also among the top 10. and Nicki Minaj, Maluma and Myriam Fares’ ‘Tukoh Taka’ debuted at number 11.
‘Dreamers’ reached number one on the iTunes Top Songs charts in 102 countries, including the UAE, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Oman, Jordan, Egypt, and Bahrain.
The superstar performed the song with Qatari singer Fahad Al-Kubaisi during the opening ceremony at the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 at Al Bayt Stadium.
The streaming singles chart is based on music streaming data from Spotify, Anghami, Apple Music, YouTube, and Deezer from 13 countries in the MENA region: Algeria, Bahrain, Egypt, Iraq, Jordan, Kuwait, Lebanon, Morocco, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Tunisia, and the UAE. It’s supported by IFPI.
