Much to the delight of regional K-Pop fans, KCON will be extended for the first time to Saudi Arabia end of this next month.
K-Pop acts Sunmi, THE BOYZ, P1Harmony, Rain, PENTAGON, and SECRET NUMBER, will be performing on September 30. ATEEZ, ONEUS, STAYC, NewJeans, Hyolyn, and T01 will take to the stage the following day.
Some of the acts are no strangers to the Middle East. Sunmi performed at Expo 2020 Dubai’s Jubilee Stage earlier this year, in celebration of the Republic of Korea’s national day. ATEEZ, THE BOYZ, and PENTAGON, were part of the Korea Festival 2020, a celebration of the 40 years of diplomatic relations between the UAE and South Korea. P1Harmony just wrapped up a performance at Hyperound K- Fest this weekend.
KCON has noted in a tweet that the line-up and the event schedule may be subject to change or cancellation under certain circumstances.
It’s the second time the annual Korean Pop festival will be held in the region. KCON made its Middle East debut in Abu Dhabi in 2016. K-Pop acts such as Monsta X, BTS, Taeyeon from Girls’ Generation, Ailee, Kyuhyun from Super Junior, SS301, and SPICA all performed on stage. Over 8,000 people attended KCON 2016 Abu Dhabi.
The KCON festival has been an integral K-pop experience since its launch in California in 2012 and has expanded into other countries, such as Japan, Mexico, Australia, and France. The star-studded convention has delivered multiple digital experiences with ‘KCON:TACT’ in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic. It resumed holding in-person conventions this year since 2019.
When and where?
KCON 2022 Saudi Arabia will be held at Boulevard Riyadh City on September 30 and October 1.
