Lucas, a former member of boy hands NCT and WayV, is preparing to debut as a soloist on April 1 with single ‘Renegade’ after more than a two-year hiatus.
Solo debut
His first single contains three songs entirely written in English, including the titular track.
‘Renegade’ is described as a rock-based hip-hop title about the ambition to pursue one’s own path.
Personal life controversy
In August 2021, the Hong Kong-born artist was embroiled in a scandal after being accused of financial exploitation, gaslighting and cheating on multiple women. He released a letter of apology admitting to the allegations.
At the time, the K-pop star was set to release music with his WayV bandmate Hendery as the subunit WayV-Lucas&Hendery but was canceled, and ultimately halted all public activities.
SM Entertainment told fans in May 2023 that Lucas was leaving NCT and its Chinese subunit WayV to pursue solo endeavors.
Last month, he hinted at a possible solo career revival in a documentary titled ‘Freeze,’ in which he addressed his physical and mental health during his prolonged hiatus.
“I’ve had a hard time over the past two years. I’ve thought about many things, but I don’t want to keep living like this. I want to keep working hard. I want to try hard,” Lucas said.
