PENTAGON’s Hongseok has been medically discharged from the military due to worsening symptoms of panic disorder and depression.
Military discharge
His agency Cube Entertainment said in a statement that its artist has been battling panic attacks and depression, and agoraphobia before his mandatory military enlistment.
“He continued treatment and therapy during his military service,” his agency Cube Entertainment explained, according to Korea JoongAng Daily. “But as his condition worsened, the military deemed he could not serve and receive treatment at the same time. It was decided that Hongseok should get a medical discharge.”
Hongseok enlisted for his mandatory service in May, making him the third PENTAGON member after Jinho and Hui. All able-bodied Korean men are required to serve at least 18 months in the country’s military.
The K-Pop artist was said to be discharged in November 2023.
Hongseok debuted in the nine-piece boy band in October 2016. He has also branched out into acting, appearing in ‘Move to Heaven,’ ‘Shadow Beauty,’ and ‘Blue Birthday.’
