Korean sci-fi thriller film ‘Space Sweepers’ is set to be released on Netflix on February 5, globally and in the UAE.
It features a star-studded lineup, that includes Song Joong-ki, Kim Tae-ri, Jin Sun-kyu and Yoo Hai-jin, and is directed by Jo Sung-hee, who is known for his work in ‘A Werewolf Boy’ and ‘Phantom Detective’.
Produced by Bidangil Pictures, the upcoming feature, set in 2092, is about a crew of a cosmic waste management spacecraft, ‘Spaceship Victory’, who discover a humanlike robot, named Dorothy. They realize that the 7-year-old girl the humanlike robot wanted by UTS Space Guards, and decide to demand ransom in exchange.
Spaceship Victory is crewed with a genius space pilot Tae-ho played by actor Song Joong-ki and a mysterious ex-space pirate Captain Jang played by Kim Tae-ri.
Jin Sun-kyu (‘Kingdom’, ‘Extreme Job’) takes on the role of ex-con spaceship engineer Tiger Park, while Yoo Hai-jin (‘Confidential Assignment’, ‘A Taxi Driver’) plays a reprogrammed military robot Bubs, Spaceship Victory surpasses all other space sweepers in the excitement-packed outer space sci-fi blockbuster.
Since the release of Director Bong Joon-ho’s 2017 ‘Okja’ on Netlifx, the relationship between Korea’s creative ecosystem and the world’s leading streaming entertainment service has been growing.
Netflix has been adding new films and series, including ‘The Call’, ‘ The Uncanny Counter’, ‘Run On, ‘Alive’, ‘Start-Up’, and ‘Lovestruck in the City’.
The streaming service also plans to further acquire more original shows as well as the creation of its own film productions with South Korean creators.
