BTS is the most popular K-Pop artist in Egypt, Saudi Arabia, and the UAE in March-June 2022 on Spotify, the music streaming service revealed.
Based on April 2022 data, most K-Pop streamers in Saudi Arabia, Egypt, and the UAE are between 18-24 years of age.
BTS dethrones
TOMORROW X TOGETHER, or TXT, the male quintet from the same music label as BTS, also made it on the ranking, placing as the fifth top act in the UAE and Saudi Arabia.
JYP Entertainment’s all-male group Stray Kids landed second in the UAE and Saudi Arabia and third in Egypt.
Its bandmates TWICE was the third most popular K-Pop act in Saudi Arabia. The girl group came in fourth in both Egypt and the UAE.
BLACKPINK ranked second, third, and fourth in Egypt, the UAE, and Saudi Arabia — its member Lisa was the fifth most popular in the kingdom.
Top songs
Songs by BTS and its members and BLACKPINK’s Lisa were among the picks in Saudi Arabia, Egypt, and the UAE between March and June 2022.
The top song in the UAE went to BTS and Coldplay collab track ‘My Universe.’ It ranked third and fifth in Egypt and Saudi Arabia, respectively, Spotify revealed.
In Egypt, Lisa’s ‘Money’ was the most popular K-Pop song, followed by Jung Kook’s ‘Stay Alive (Prod. SUGA of BTS)’ — which was also a second favorite in the other two markets.
As for Saudi Arabia, V’s ‘Christmas Tree’ from the series ‘Our Beloved Summer’ was the most popular song in the 90-day period. The song was among the top picks in Egypt.
Fun fact
Palestine recorded the highest average year-on-year (YoY) increase in K-Pop streams between 2019 and 2021, with 208%, according to Spotify data. Oman (183%), Morocco (154%, Lebanon (144%), and Jordan (139%) followed. The UAE and Saudi Arabia posted a 115% and 98% YoY increase, respectively.
