TREASURE’s aim was to brighten up the month of January and send out positive vibes and messages of encouragement to fans and listeners with their new album amid the ongoing pandemic. And they sure did!
The rookie group dominated the hearts of local listeners with their first full album ‘The First Step: Treasure Effect’ fronted by upbeat lead track ‘My Treasure’ on Monday.
Having released just five months after their debut, the 12-track album, which was also written by AKMU singer-songwriter Chankyuk, topped the UAE iTunes all-genre, Pop and K-Pop albums chart. It topped 17 other countries, that includes India, Thailand, Brazil, Hong Kong, among others.
‘My Treasure,’ which members Choi Hyun-suk, Yoshi, and Haruto took part in writing the lyrics, was among the top of the UAE iTunes songs chart. Taking the lead was ‘Going Crazy’, while the rest of the songs such as ‘Orange’, ‘MMM’, and ‘BOY’ dominated the iTunes charts.
Treasure is the first K-Pop group in four years to debut since BlackPink and is fourth boy group — after Big Bang, Winner and iKON — and the largest to be launched under YG Entertainment.
The young K-Pop stars have garnered a fan following prior to their debut in August 2020. They were handpicked out of 29 potential K-Pop stars for a spot in YG’s new group in a survival program titled ‘YG Treasure Box’, which aired from November 2018 to January 2019.
The band consists of Hyunsuk, Doyoung, Jeongwoo, Junghwan, Jihoon, Jaehyuk, Asahi, Yoshinori, Junkyu, Mashiho, Yedam, and Haruto.
Treasure was initially a 13-member group but YG Entertainment reportedly announced that member Ha Yoonbin left last December to pursue a solo career, therefore terminated his contract.
The K-Pop boy group has bagged award wins, including Rookie of the Year Award at the ‘2020 Asia Artist Awards’ and Best New Male Artist Award at the ‘2020 Mnet Asian Music Awards’.
