All TWICE members have renewed their contracts with JYP Entertainment ahead of their contract expiration this autumn.
“TWICE, which played a decisive role in establishing the status of K-pop entertainment company JYP, and JYP, which has been a strong support for TWICE’s growth as a top K-pop girl group, agreed to renew the contracts with confidence in their future based on such trust,” the agency said in a statement, according to Yonhap News Agency.
TWICE’s contract renewal seemingly breaks the K-Pop industry’s infamous tendency of the so-called “seven-year curse” experienced by many of K-Pop bands around the seventh year of their debut.
Seven years is the standard length of exclusive contracts between their artists and their agencies. Other girl groups such as 2NE1, Lovelyz, and GFriend disbanded or left their respective companies following the expiration of their contracts.
TWICE — which consists of members Sana, Jihyo, Mina, Dahyun, Nayeon, Momo, Chaeyoung and Tzuyu — debuted in October 2015. The prolific band propelled to stardom with hits like ‘Feel Special,’ ‘Signal’, ‘Cheer Up’, ‘More & More,’ and ‘TT’, and have gone to break records and win various accolades.
JYP Entertainment’s nine-member multinational girl band will drop 11th EP ‘Between 12’ — their first Korean release in 2022 — in August. Nayeon became the first TWICE member to release music as a soloist, with EP ‘Im Nayeon’ last month.
