BTS has officially marked their long-awaited return with their fifth studio album, ARIRANG, and the group is already commanding traction across MENA.
MENA chart dominance
Released on March 20, the album arrives nearly three years and nine months after the group’s previous studio project, signaling a highly anticipated reunion moment that is already resonating globally—and particularly across MENA markets.
On iTunes, ARIRANG topped the all-genre album charts in multiple countries across the region, including the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Egypt, Oman, and Qatar. Meanwhile, the album’s title track “SWIM” secured the No. 1 spot on the all-genre songs chart in the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, and Lebanon.
Elsewhere, album tracks are also gaining traction individually. In Egypt, the intro track “The Sun” reached No. 1 on the songs chart, while “Into the Sun” placed No. 2 in Jordan, No. 4 in Oman, and No. 29 in Qatar—highlighting the depth of listener engagement beyond the lead single.
The ‘SWIM’ music video, released March 19, is trending strongly in MENA, hitting No. 1 in the UAE on YouTube’s music Trending chart and reaching No. 5 in Egypt and Saudi Arabia as of today.
Album concept & themes
‘ARIRANG’ is described as a project that encapsulates BTS’ identity while reflecting universal emotional themes. Drawing inspiration from the traditional Korean folk song ‘ARIRANG,’ the album symbolically bridges the group’s cultural roots with their present-day perspective in 2026, aiming to resonate across generations and global audiences.
Spanning 14 tracks, the album charts BTS’ journey and evolution. The first half delivers high-energy and reflective moments, from the stadium-ready ‘Body to Body’ to ‘Hooligan,’ which traces the group’s trailblazing career. Tracks like ‘Aliens,’ ‘FYA,’ and ‘2.0’ further capture their artistic growth and renewed momentum.
At its core, the interlude ‘No. 29’ incorporates the tolling of the historic Divine Bell of King Seongdeok, anchoring the album in Korean heritage. The latter half expands into a broader emotional spectrum, with songs like ‘SWIM’ exploring resilience, ‘Merry Go Round’ reflecting life’s cycles, and ‘NORMAL’ offering introspective storytelling.
The project closes with themes of freedom, identity, and connection—culminating in tracks like ‘Like Animals,’ ‘they don’t know ’bout us,’ ‘One More Night,’ and the closing pair ‘Please’ and ‘Into the Sun.’
With strong chart performance across MENA and a concept rooted in both heritage and global relatability, ‘ARIRANG’ positions BTS’ return as not just a comeback, but a defining moment in their ongoing legacy.
